Prime performers from Atlas Copco
At the heart of Atlas Copco’s PAS (Pumping Application Solutions) centrifugal pumps is a system comprising a pump and a SuperDuo separator. This is designed to enable air to be separated from the liquid and then sucked up by a vacuum pump. The system makes automatic priming possible, even with suction heights of several metres, the company states.
The machine rapidly evacuates the air from the suction pipe and starts to pump. Having a semi-open impeller, the machines are also suitable for dealing with liquids containing solids in suspension. The line-up includes 4in, 6in, 8in and 12in models.
Heavy-duty Altrad Belle models
Altrad Belle offers a growing range of professional cold-water pressure washers. The heavy-duty PWX line-up is powered by either Honda petrol or Yanmar diesel engines and each model has an optional hose reel.
Every machine is fitted with a detergent/chemical feed-line with an in-line strainer. The units can provide a selection of flow rates from 8-15 litres per minute, and a maximum water pressure of 2,600-3,600psi (180-250 bar).
At the 2019 Executive Hire Show, Altrad Belle launched the BWX bowser pressure washer, a heavy-duty road-towable machine which has an integral 1,125-litre water tank coupled to an 8.9hp Yanmar electric-start diesel engine.
Efficiency from El-Bjorn
El Bjorn’s climate control products are designed for effective and energy efficient operation, as well as to reduce running costs and CO2 emissions. The range includes machines for heating, moisture removal, air movement and data monitoring.
All come with a three or five year warranty.
Makita’s submersible line-up
Makita’s submersible pumps can be used for dewatering cellars and trenches, with selected models designed to handle dirty or heavily contaminated water. The electric PF1010 and PF0410 can deal with water containing particles of up to 35mm in size, often encountered in the aftermath of a flood.
The EW2051H and EW3051H 4-stroke models incorporate Makita’s ‘mini’ MM4 engine. This is designed to minimise fuel wastage as the exhaust and outlet are never open at the same time, so fuel is recycled back into the engine rather than being lost through the exhaust port.
Makinex cleans up
Makinex’s DPW 4000 dual pressure washer trolley combines a pressure washer and a rotary cleaner with an output adjustable from 1,000 to 4,000psi. Power comes from a 13hp Honda engine.
The cleaner has a 61cm working width and incorporates a hose reel. Various nozzle tips are available to give different spraying angles and the machine’s front wheel locks to prevent it rolling away.

HSC increases its range
The Hire Supply Company (HSC) has increased its Elite submersible pumps range by adding two ‘dirty water’ pumps capable of handling 7mm solids. The SPT500 2in heavy-duty model is available in 110V, with or without a float switch. It has a 500W motor, offers a maximum head height of 12m and can handle 210 litres per minute.
In its drying equipment range for this season, HSC is offering metal-bodied quartz halogen infra-red heaters which only heat solid objects rather than the surrounding area making them suitable for emergency spot drying. The heaters will be available in 110V or 240V and are rated at 2400W to reduce transformer burn out on 110V units, and to minimise the potential to overheat sockets and plugs with 240V equipment. Also available is the highly portable EH1500 model which has a 1500W single element and is again offered in 110V or 240V.
The HSC line-up also includes the Master range of electric fan heaters and indirect diesel models, and the company says it can now supply units from 3kW right up to 225kW on a next-day service throughout the UK mainland.
In addition, the Master line-up includes dehumidifiers to speed up restoration and renovation work.
HSC’s cold water pressure washer range includes Simpson professional models made in the USA. These have an aircraft grade aluminium chassis carrying a ten-year warranty, CAT pumps and Honda GX engines. A ‘Dial N Wash’ facility allows the user to control the pressure from the lance assembly.

Be prepared with Obart
Obart Pumps’ Tsurumi LSC1.4S ‘puddle sucker’ has been popular for hire fleets since the 1980s.
Its ability to pump down to 1mm makes it useful for flooding applications. It is designed to run for extended periods with little or no water, providing a defence against ongoing water seepage.
Obart also offers the Floodmate flood protection emergency kit. This is available in four formats, one of which incorporates the LSC1.4S and is supplied with two 10m lengths of discharge hose, 10m of power cable and two absorbent Hydrosacks. The items are supplied a carry case with enough room to store tools and emergency rations.
High-spec Humidity Solutions dryer
Humidity Solutions’ BD70LHS rota-moulded building dryer is designed for flood recovery work and is of heavy-duty construction.
It incorporates a strengthened axle, metal connectors for the hose, rotary controls for simple operation, an hour counter and a built-in water pump.
The manufacturer states that the unit can remove 70 litres of moisture per day at 30°C and 80% relative humidity (RH), and 44 litres per day at 26.7°C and 60% RH.
Fast work with Pramac
For areas at risk of flooding, Pramac-Generac’s MP pumps are designed to deal with large volumes of water quickly. The self-priming models can move sandy or muddy waters at rates of up to 1,340 litres per minute.
Also included in the Pramac Green Range is the PW Series of petrol and diesel driven cold water pressure washers. Designed to be user friendly and compact, the machines can provide up to three hours of operation.
Morris goes Hyper
New from Morris Site Machinery is the Hilta Hyperwash diesel pressure washer, which has a Stage V-compliant engine and offers an output of 3,000psi.
Designed for hire industry use, it has a robust roll-cage to protect the connections, four large wheels to facilitate operation on rough terrain, and comes with a 12m lance pressure hose producing a flow of 15 litres a minute.

Move it with VAF Air
VAF Air says that the most important element for efficient drying during flood remediation work
is air movement. The manufacturer’s Miniveyor Air VAF fans are designed to work on positive and negative airflow, making them equally at home extracting fumes and smells or blowing fresh clean air into a building.
The machines have vane axial fans for efficiency, are stackable and have large handles for manoeuvrability. Made from high-density polythene, their double-wall construction gives robustness and the bodies carry a ten-year warranty.
